Concept Products at the Daily Mail Ideal Home Show

In 2008 the Ideal Home Show celebrates its centenary - an incredible achievement for an exhibition which has captivated the public, and reflected changing tastes and designs for the home for 100 years. For the 8th year, Articulate will curate the popular 'Concept Products' feature area, which showcases the work of graduate designers who have studied at Britain's foremost design courses. Approximately 30 young designers are selected, and their work provides a snapshot into the near future - revealing the trends and influences that shape tomorrow's homes and lifestyles.

This year, 29 graduates had their final projects selected to display at the show, capturing widespread media attention including appearances on Richard & Judy and This Morning TV shows and national press coverage. Channel 4's Gadget Guru, Jason Bradbury acted as celebrity ambassador. The £2000 development prize went to Philip Ross' ingenious SafeHinge - and hopefully, it will be available to buy before the end of the year.

Concept Products 2007 also featured 2 additional initiatives. Junior Concept Products revealed the imaginations of more than 250 primary school children, challenged to come up with ideas that would make life at home better. The result was lots of robots and ingenious inventions exhibited in a dedicated gallery at the show.

Meanwhile design students at 6 of the UK's leading universities tackled the theme of 2020 Living for the chance to win a work placement at BarberOsgerby.

SmartSlab

2 years ago, Prof Tom Barker invented the SmartSlab - and Articulate helped to capture the media's imagination. SmartSlab is an ingenious, interactive, multi-media enabled building material which could literally transform the face of contemporary building projects - inside and out.

In 2007 we asked TV presenter Philippa Forrester to join Tom on stage at Imperial College to tell an invited audience about SmartSlab developments and its availability. Would-be specifiers from sport, leisure, entertainment management joined architects and the press for an amazing presentation - and there has been widespread media interest.
